Tragedy on Sycamore Valley Road

Hat Tip: Danville Patch

"The victims of a fatal car crash [the afternoon of Monday, November 7th, 2011] have been identified as Elham Pirdavari, 51, the driver of the vehicle that was struck, and passenger Mahindokht Dowlati, 72. Both were residents of Danville.

Pirdavari was pronounced dead at the scene at Sycamore Valley Road and Brookside Drive by San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District emergency personnel.
Dowlati was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.

The two were mother and daughter."

Cause of the Accident Unknown

As of today, the cause of this terrible accident is unknown. Danville police have offered no further information other than the obligatory "we're investigating". Meanwhile, the people of Danville who travel this road are becoming increasingly concerned for their safety.
The status of the driver of the red Toyota pickup truck, a Walnut Creek man named John Peder Harris, is also unknown as well as his role in the accident. Presumably, the investigation will determine whether he violated traffic laws and caused the crash that killed two people. His name was originally disclosed in news reports, but later removed at the request of Danville police.

As a resident of Danville and driver of Sycamore Valley Road, I witness on a daily basis the flagrant violation of traffic laws (speeding, slow driving, cell phone talking, running red lights) and I have had enough! I urge those who share my concerns to help me press our town officials to TAKE ACTION to enforce traffic laws on this road before someone else's loved one dies. I don't know how our town government works, but there has to be a public forum for safety concerns where we can make the people in charge of public safety accountable.

Maybe we can start by contacting Danville Public Officials and demanding some action:

  2. Sycamore Valley Road is not the place to point the blame, I believe. It's the entitled drivers of this town who consistently treat the whole Bay Area roads as theirs and feel they are untouchable. A speeding ticket or a traffic violation...so what? They can afford it! It is only when tragedy strikes that some choose to wake up. Kitt Livsey said she has "seen several youngsters in particular reaching for cell phones go right through the red light." While I agree that many teenagers do not yet understand the true responsibility of driving and are prone to making mistakes, adults share in the same mistakes. So many middle-aged people are driving talking on cell phones and speeding 10mph or much more. I pick middle-aged because the median age in Danville is 44.5 according to the 2010 census. It was 39.9 in 2000. Face it: Danville is getting older. It is due to the expenses incurred to live here. Our society is in such a hurry and our in particular area, they feel they've earned their fancy car and they should be able to drive it the way they want to. These are the people who at large are making the roads unsafe on a daily basis.

While I agree, it is discouraging to not here answers in this case, the true loss is not our personal satisfaction for information, but that these two women receive justice. People are generally distrusting of police in the first place, but as we are deep into the holiday season, let us reflect on the true gift of life. Deepest condolences to the family of Elham Pirdavari and Mahindokht Dowlati.
